MVGSA is excited to continue to participate with other USA Softball leagues and offer the Select Softball Program.
Each year many softball families are faced with a dilemma: continue playing recreational softball or make the big jump to travel softball. For those recreational players that have developed a higher level of softball skill, the natural progression is to make the move to competitive softball. Especially now, during these unprecedented times. However, this jump requires a family making a sizable commitment in terms of both time and financial resources. For years, there has been a definite expressed need to provide an opportunity for young players to play softball at an intermediate level, between the strict recreational play and the highly committed competitive play. That is where the Select Program comes in.
WHAT IS THE SELECT PROGRAM?
Select is a program sanctioned by USA Softball that has very specific rules, by which MVGSA must abide. This program provides the option for advanced players to practice and/or play games together at a more challenging level prior to/and during the recreational season. It is intended to allow those advanced players to play against all-star caliber teams from other leagues and USA Softball of Southern California to get a higher level of competition, while keeping costs low, and without compromising the integrity of the primary recreational league.
SELECT TEAM INFORMATION
- Teams will be formed after tryouts and players will be notified within 1-2 days if they were selected.
- One team per division (8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U). An additional team will be formed based on interest, available coaches, and permission from USA Softball.
- Team practices will only be on Sundays. Recreational team practices supersede Select practices.
- A Select head coach will be interviewed and announced one week prior to tryouts by the Select Board Committee. He or she will be responsible for the coordination and communication with parents on matters specific to your player’s division.
- Coaches are NOT paid. MVGSA is a volunteer, recreational softball program. We rely on our talented parents and volunteers across multiple divisions to assist with the team workouts. We are seeking assistance from volunteers in our community with advanced softball skills to help with the key aspects of the program.
PLAYER TRYOUTS
Select Tryouts are mandatory and will be tentatively held at California Oaks Sports Park
To be considered for the Select Season, players must attend the tryout. Select Team coaches, with the oversight of the Select Committee, will select the teams.
Tryouts for 8U, 10U, 12U & 14U is on Sunday, January 21nd @ 8:00am.
No registration needed, come to So Cal Hit House ready to be evaluated.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO TRYOUT
Any player who is registered for the Spring 2024 Recreation Season.
COST
Cost for the season includes tournament fees and a jersey.
Select Teams will run through Spring 2024. Playing on the Select Team does not guarantee a spot on the Summer All-Star team.
Due to the limited number of teams, not all girls will be “selected.”
